As Mitch Corder, the Administrative Bishop for the Church of God in Tennessee, visited PTS today to speak in chapel, he presented a check for $1,500 to President Michael Baker.  He designated the gift to go to the tuition of a deserving PTS student of African descent in honor of the Black Ministries Awareness Celebration in PTS Chapel today.  Mitch Corder indicated his gratitude that PTS specifically designates 9 scholarships for black students preparing for ministry, and the Tennessee State Office of the Church of God wanted to add to that effort.

President Baker shared, “We are so grateful for this generous gift from Bishop Corder and the Tennessee State Office.  We at PTS are intentional in recruiting students of color to study at PTS.  Even though PTS has always been a school where diversity is important, we have seen significant growth in the last five years in the number of students of African descent attending the Seminary.  It is my desire to continue to see that growth.”

Doyle Scott, the Director of Black Ministries for the Church of God said, “Black Ministries is grateful for the $1,500 scholarship given by Bishop Corder and the Tennessee State Churches of God.  It is my belief that PTS, Black Ministries and the Tennessee State Office of the Church of God will work together to make a significant difference for the Kingdom.”
